What is Wool Melton?

Melton Wool is woven in twill form giving it a felt like smooth finish. Originating in Melton this fabric is regarded as the toughest, most durable and warmest of woollen fabrics.

Melton Wool is unlike boiled wool which is knitted and stretchy, lighter and suitable for sweaters and blankets.

Thick and dense, windproof and weatherproof, Melton is highly sought after for outdoor apparel, upholstery and curtains.

Pure New Wool Melton is available in plain and melange - which is flecked and gorgeous!

Melton can be woven with other yarns but of course the best quality is the 100% Pure New Wool.

It’s inherently Fire Retardant for upholstery and as curtains, Melton offers inherent thermal qualities and a tactile, homely ‘cocooning’ result. Although thick and heavy, it drapes for curtains and is famed for it’s acoustic absorption, perfect for bedrooms, street facing windows and rooms with hard flooring.

Authentic Melton is for the connoisseur and costly at up to £70.00m. At Peter Lees it can be sourced inexpensively in Roll Ends and Wool section, with roll ends varying from 1.0m to 3.0m and very affordable. The rolls work out at or under £10.00m.
